STI handguns

Recommended Posts

I would like to hear of your experiences, good or bad, with STI handguns or with their customer services.

The model that I am considering is the Escort in .45 ACP, with the 3" barrel and forged aluminum frame, so any experience with that specific model would also be extremely helpfull.

Thanks in advance 2-Click

Before my work schedule knocked me out of it, I used to shoot compition with the guys that started STI. I have seen their guns shot thousands of rounds a year with no problem. I do not have any experience with this model. Overall STI makes great guns but they are proud of them.

After I read your post this morning, I did some quick research using Google, so I probably won't be telling you anything you don't already know. I was interested in their warranty service, as I know you are. The only place it is really talked about on their website is in the FAQ section, which seems a little odd to me (not to put it up front). I'm still trying to digest exactly how the warranty works. They seem to want to hedge their bets, and their use of the term "abuse" is open to interpretation, I would imagine. The other thing that is not specified is in "work performed by someone other than them". I suppose if you wanted a new sight or grips or whatever, you would have to let them do it (with you paying for it), or possibly void the warranty. Maybe a more specific warranty comes with the gun itself, but I can't find illumination at their site.

Most reviews seem to like the gun, which one should at their prices (your gun of interest is about the least expensive one available, as you know, and it ain't cheap). At those prices, I would want a more specific warranty.

Thanks, OP.

I am a regular visitor at a 1911 forum where they have a sub-forum there just for STI products. I have read posts from the last couple of years, and I found only one negative thread there. That issue was resolved when the right person at ATI got involved. I saw no complaints of warranties being voided by any DIY gunsmithing (I don't plan to do that anyway).

ATI has changed leadership and improved their product lines similar to the way Savage has. They make at least a dozen models of popular competiton race-guns.

Since they are a Texas company, I thought the Posse members might be a good source of information.

Sti is good to go... The warranty is really for those guys that race their guns out for competition.

I know the lead engineer there. very nice guy and knowledgeable. We are actually working on a STA 1911 through them

Thanks, 2 Mag and CSH. I think I will take the plunge and get an Escort. It would be my first 1911 that is not a Springfield Armory product, as well as my first forged aluminum frame. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I feel better about it now.

I bought a spartan and had several issues with it and when I called Sti they told me they were made in the Phillipines and pretty much if I would have spent more money on a better gun I would get better customer service? The person I talked to wasn't that friendly anyways but he could have been having a bad day, I was just bummed because it was a Texas company and I had no idea the gun I bought was made over seas
