Night Hunting Light Options

Recommended Posts

We have many threads in several forums on what lights to use for hunting predators and hogs at night.

I thought I would sum up my personal thoughts and suggestions based on my actual experience and research. I will constantly update this as new and/or better options appear.

Y'all chime in with your field hunting experience too! Like with most predator calling, I don't think there is one "right" answer. Different folks hunt different ways and have different preferences.

I personally recommend having both a hand held and a rifle mounted light to cover different hunting scenarios.

The EWT Kill light was the first major player for rifle mounted LED lights. I own a red one and have used it for predators. It works well.

Elusive Wildlife Technologies XLR-250 Kill Light Link: LINK REMOVED. EWT WOULD NOT LET THEIR DISTRIBUTOR DONATE A DOOR PRIZE FOR THE 2013 RENDEZVOUS BECAUSE A COMPETITOR WAS ATTENDING.

Selph Arms has the VRL-1 similar to the XLR-250. It is available with both red & green LED modules included along with different mounts including a picatinny rail for scope mounting. You can buy the components by themselves to customize your "kit". They offer much better packages and components than EWT.

I own the XLR-250, VRL-.. They are all excellent quality and get the job done. They vary a bit in what is included. You can choose the one that best fits your needs. I won't recommend the XLR-250 for the reason stated above. Besides, the VRL-1 offers better over all packages and components.

For spotlight, I recommend the Lightforce 170 or one of the American made Magnalights:

Whichever spot light you get, you need to put a shroud on it like the Silent Halo Shield shown at the top of the page on the Lightforce link above.

If you just want a great white rifle mounted light, I think the Coast Lenser LED V2 Tactical Power Chip is a best buy. It uses 3 AAA batteries which last 37 hours! It will reach out over 200 yards. Scope mounts are available at Burnham Brothers.

$25-$45 at Amazon:

I still prefer red for predators and green for hogs, your mileage may vary.

The nitestik is pretty cool and I might have to try it.

There are some pretty cool hands free rechargeable hunting lights from bulbs to LED and all kinds of accessories. Not to mention, built tough.

Here are some different links and products that I have used and recommend:

That is what we are here for and why I started this thread. We don't post links to other forums however. This is pretty universal.

I have a green laser on my ar-15 and found that at about 200 yards it is actually big enough around to hunt with. Id estimate about 8-10 inches around or so. I was looking at a hog at 180yrds the other night and could see most of its head.

I got my offset mount yesterday and re-mounted my light on my Posse AR. It works great. It positions the light so I can use the tailcap switch with my rifle up to my shoulder.

I am shocked that EWT would do that to a dealer that just blows my mind. I would never think of doing that just because of another company with a similar product offering a door prize or raffle don't worry Bob you will have our product for the raffle and door prize.

It looks like APC should drop them and concentrate on their product since EWT is starting to play games with all their dealers.
