Hi evryone my name is Trent i am 22 years old.I live and hunt/trap around borden county texas i was raised hunting/trapping by my grandfather my dad and my uncle. I like shooting trap and skeet and sporting clays. I just recently got into pistols. I hunt and trap with my best friend copper (my redbone coonhound). I have hunted many thing and trapped everything except mountain lions inthe surrounding counties i am always looking for new game to track. I was raised in farming and ranching so hunting has been at the forefront of my life since i shot my first deer at age 5 i have a young daughter myself and i look forward to passing the knowledge i have learned from my grandfather and father on to my daughters generation. The only thing i fear is that with more and more liberal presure and our new radical liberal president is that my way of life will be forced away before i can pass it on . I am so glad that I found this great forum to keep the hunting trapping traditions going. There is one thing if anyone could help me with is dose anyone know why the CHL system is so dang slow?

Hey Trent,

Welcome to the Posse!! I am glad you decided to join in! As far as the CHL's here, thank Obama. There has been a huge spike in CHL applications since he was elected. They are starting to catch up again.

Good Hunting,

Hey y'all! I'm new here, so forgive me for posting on the new topic site. I just returned from a 3-day hog hunt in Gonzales, Tx. I am new to hog hunting, but took down a 205-lb. boar while returning from a stalk hunt! I was with 5 others and decided to walk back through the trees when I saw the hog crossing a creek. I put the squeeze on my 30-30 when he was halfway through the creek and, lucky for me, he managed to fight his way to the other shore before dying. The ranch hands had to get a rope and drag it back across the creek to the side I was on in order to get it back to camp! I'm planning on getting some good info from other posse members because this ain't the only hog I plan on taking. I've got some hogs on my inlaws' property that need taking, and I want to do it right! The shot cost me one shoulder from the entry wound. I was able to recover my bullet and plan on getting the head cleaned off so I can have the skull displayed outside (I don't think my wife will let it in the house). I'm also wanting to take some coyotes from around the Cedar Creek area. Any help will be appreciated. I grew up in Arlington, Tx. I am a veteran of the United States Air Force and am proud to have served my God and my country!

As a new member and at the suggestion of Mr. Bobcat, I am here to introduce myself. I am a new member to this board, but not new to predator calling. I grew up on the family ranch in Northwestern Utah, and since have lived and hunted in numerous states from Utah, to Kansas, to Alabama, to Spain. I am a Pilot by trade and my most recent employment has brought me to the great state of Texas. I see a lot of critters running around here through the brush as I fly around, and am really looking forward to being able to put a few of them into the drt files. Anyway, it seems like there are a great bunch of folks around here, and I look forward to receiving any input or tips to hunting critters in the Texas brush country. By the way, is there any vegetation out here that DOESN'T have some sort of thorn or sticker on it???!!!!

Sounds good! Been wanting to meet more folks out here. I've been here for a couple of years, but don't know too many people outside my church and work. As for the head shot, I was aiming at the head...I just forgot to relax when I pulled the trigger!

Welcome neighbor. I work in Snyder, and live in Loraine, so we're practically in each other's back yards. What portion of Borden county do you hunt? I've a friend that has an interest in a ranch up there... Cattle company (don't recall the names, his dad's side of the family), and has taken some nice varmints, including lions on that property. Good to have you here, and hopefully we can get some local calling in after the first of the year.
