Brian,

Praying for your family. Having the patriarch of the family, someone who has been so involved in his community, in a hard spot physically, is a tough thing for the flesh to understand. The Lord has His purpose for this time. Perhaps a time to restrengthen your relationship with Him, or someone else in the family. Regardless, cancer is an awful disease on the body, and the Lord knows what He was doing, as it is all in His Will. Praying for your family's grace, and comfort through this time, as well as understanding and peace to accept His Will, whatever it may be. Also praying for the doctors who are working with your Grandfather, so they can receive wisdom and grace as well, offering whatever the Lord gives them to you and your family.

We may not be able to be there in person, but the Holy Spirit is there with us, and know that we have a great Intercessory. God bless.

Been there...I know its hard but keep your head up, keep the faith.
