With a coyote and a bobcat down my gullet, it just didn't seem fair to leave a fox out of the mix, so today I am proud to bring you Fox Lunch!

I whacked a fairly big male fox this morning with my trusy 12ga, and decided with the recent cool temperatures it was time for a little snack. Used my new decoy that Edge sent me - a little big, but it got the job done!
Posted Image

Once I got him home I strung him up and went to work skinning the little fella. Those backstraps looked so tasty!
Posted Image

The first "chunk" of meat. Not much meat on a fox, as it turns out.
Posted Image

When I was all done, this is what I had to eat.
Posted Image

And when it was all cooked up, here's my well-balanced meal!
Posted Image

And of course there's a video! Watch the video of Fox Lunch!

Mmmmmmm! More tasty predators!

Hey Rizzo
As you no doubt have learned, most of the guys on here are real true southern gentlemen. Nary a one of them would utter a perjorative (sp) word toward one of our own no matter how bizarre they are acting.

Me, on the other hand, was born and raised, for the first 18 years at least, in upstate N.Y. Therefore, I have no compunction against stating,in my opinion, that eating predators, such as coyotes, fox and bobcats is just a stupid stunt to draw attention to oneself. Nor do I feel the least bit embarassed in so stating. Just rude I guess.

I've also noticed that you have self advertised your "book" on three or four sites. How are sales going? Send me a copy and I will be glad to critique it as well.

Well Rick, this whole thing started a couple years ago on another site called AR15.com. I had asked the question about whether or not anyone had actually eaten predators, and when no one said they had, I was challenged by a couple of guys to do it. So I figured what the heck, I might as well. After eating a coyote, eating bobcat seemed like the next logical step. I had heard it was good, as many old school predator hunters will tell you. They also say mountain lion is good, though I've yet to try it. I shot this fox the other day and the weather was nice and I had a free day so I thought to myself "I wonder what this tastes like?" Only one way to find out, and since I'd already posted the stories of the other ones, figured I'd do this one too. I'm not really trying to draw attention to myself, no more than you are by being flip. Besides, aren't we all drawing attention to ourselves when we post pictures of good hunts, or piles of critters, or hero shots of a good day in the field?

As for my book, it is going quite well. Sales are great and the feedback I am getting on it is fantastic. A few dealers have started selling it, and I'm looking forward to the review that Judd Cooney and Jim Casada give it in a future issue of Predator Xtreme Magazine. You are right that I do a lot of self-advertising, and the site staff on every site on which I do so have encouraged it. I also self-advertise my media blasting company in the appropriate venues, and it works very well for me and my bank account. It's called "marketing". And if you'd like a copy of my book, please feel free to pick one up from Amazon.com or AllPredatorCalls.com.

Not being a Texan, I don't find myself in here too often posting in the threads. I came to this site by Bob's invitation, and thought I might share some things that I do that may be a little different. Online forums are a way for all of us to get together and share our adventures in the outdoors, in a way that we may not otherwise be able to. If you have any other questions for me, though, please don't hesitate to ask.

Actually not all of the fox was tough. I think on that last piece I got a little too much sinew, or whatever that fiber is called that lines muscle and moves it around, the stuff that you normally trim off deer or elk meat when you're butchering it, and that was what I was chewing for so long. The cat was nice and tender, though, but ALL of the yote was tough.

Hey Rizzo

My jabbing at you was in a lighthearted vein...........don't take it personal. Although my position on eating bobcats, coyotes and fox is about what my thoughts are on eating skunk, possum and muskrats. It is probably the "city boy" in me. After all I grew up in a town of 1200 folks.

Now that I live in a metropolis (8000) sometimes I just get full of myself and say the darndest things.

I do wish you well in your writing career. Who knows, you may be the nest Tom Clancy, who is definitely one of my favorite authors. I will have to pass on buying your book though. Being an unemployed garbage handler I just can't afford it. However if you have a used, torn or beatup copy just laying around, send it to me as I do love to read. And just as soon as I get off foodstamps, welfare and foreign aid, I will look into buying a copy.

Dang it. You're the man! I have cooked bobcat but never ate it. I'm pretty fond of racoon though. I think the coyotes have the best idea though... eat rabbits and deer!
We Americans got so tired of being thought of as dumb by the rest of the world that we went to the polls and removed all doubt!!

Kind of like Tur-Duc-Hen (For those who do not know that's a chicken inside a duck, inside a turkey.)
